pedro vian, the man who started modern obscure music and one of the most crucial artists in barcelona scene signes a new release on mm discos.

lp,180 g, 2018 reissue - remastered from original tapes, carefully reproduced original art veteran library musician alan parker recorded with session vocalist madeline bell for his themes international music label and the result was 1976s the voice of soul. the sensational uptempo dancer thats what friends are for is probably the most well known track on the record, and is a big hit on the rare groove scene, but it is by no means an anomaly. the voice of soul is essentially a perfect, sophisticated soul album with heaps of swagger and sass from beginning to end. its once generic-sounding title is now deservedly definitive.

love makes the world go around. “two”, the second album by the soul session, is full of love. ralph kiefer, multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger and producer from south germany embarks on a stylistically diverse journey into soul, jazz, funk and world music. being a highly respected session musician in the jazz as well as the crossover scene, kiefer made a serious impact in 2011 with “one”, the first soul session album. “one” was built on a solid backbeat of soul, hip hop and funk, while “two” now takes a step further into a spiritual and eclectic dimension. “quantraversa” featuring the voice of las vegas based neo-soul queen georgia anne muldrow is the mind- blowing opener of this album, a truly deep and intense rhythmic statement. quantraversa is a word which you will not find in any dictionary, but that is not the point, says ralph kiefer. “this album is a journey to the inner self. the recording process was like meditation. i often started with a loop, or an idea for a melody. it evolved from there and i simply let it happen. when i involved the lyricists and vocalists, my drafts sometimes took a completely different paths and ended in something unexpected and beautifully new.” the double vinyl is housed in a gatefold sleeve with download code included.

up next on phonica white is brooklyn based artist justin cudmore. he is a well-known dj thanks to his memorable sessions at the bunker among other new york and many of the best clubs worldwide as well as teaming up with mike servito and gunnar haslam as hot mix dj collective. as well as djing, justin has always been a fan and creator of dance music, he started being part of chicago’s underground scene, deepening his appreciation for the classic house and acid that you can still feel in these new tracks. this new release follows in the wake of ‘forget it’, his last celebrated ep released by the bunker though in our minds his sound has progressed yet again, sounding fuller, faster and rounder. ‘twisted love’ gets straight to the point, with firm and strong percussion joined to a fickle acid bass line. in addition to this, justin weaves in some house-flavoured vocals to keep you hooked until the end of the track. a certified floor-filler of a track. on the flip is ‘about to burst’, a track that starts with a powerful kick drum and grows with new emerging elements, punchy hi-hats coming and going in key moments and a simple keyboard arpeggio that added to an acid bass line catches you instantly. justin’s new ep is unapologetically aimed at the dancefloor. its primary influence may be detroit-flavoured techno yet you’ll also find chicago house and acid elements floating over its powerful backbone, all combining in devastating way, primed for club use. artwork as always is supplied by the talented pedro carvalho de almeida.

nekhsa is a mysterious producer with a long running history of minimal and electro greatness running through his veins. a firm believer in the analog and a fluid method of production by jamming with a host of machines. second release with spinning plates following sp003 which feat. 2 remixes from dj spider. said to produce for a host of great labels under a host of alias its rare not to hear a track from this artist on a night out in the london scene. charm snake is a new comer who focuses on the trip. his first release with spinning plates is challenging at 12min plus but once locked in you wish lasted a week.

radio slaves reissue label, r-time, returns with an in demand re-release of his timeless remixes of peace division’s legendary blacklight sleaze (ft pleasant gehman). originally released on nrk in 2006, ‘blacklight sleaze landed at a time when peace division (justin drake & clive henry) was lauded as one of most bankable acts in house music having notched up a truly remarkable catalogue that helped define the genre from the late 90s onwards. later that year, the pleasant gehman spoken vocal led cut was treated to a series of remixes from radio slave, another act who had firmly developed a similarly revered status in the scene. these futuristic remixes, now fully re-mastered and sounding better than ever, take blacklight sleaze to another level with thundering kicks, a pitch-perfect arrangement and tightrope balance between foreboding house and bone-shaking techno. a huge anthem at berghain, these remixes have been a favourite weapon in the record bags of many techno djs, not to mention a regular fixture in nina kraviz and rodhads sets now seems the perfect time for more blacklight sleaze
